The Proud Science Alliance (PSA) joined a selection of incredible speakers at the inaugural LGBT Leaders STEM Conference, organised by PinkNews. The purpose of the event was to encourage LGBT+ students into careers within in a variety of industries and show them that neither sexuality or gender should hinder your career.
Members from GSK, AstraZeneca and Pfizer took part in the PSA panel discussion – ‘Finding Leadership Gold at the End of your Rainbow’- aimed at helping students understand the diversity of pathways to leadership. The group each shared their own career journeys, highlighting where they felt being LGBT+ had shaped careers decisions and offering invaluable advice gleamed from personal experience.
GSK also ran a separate workshop debunking the myths around working in the Health & Life Sciences sector. LGBT+ network group members, from across the GSK business landscape, spoke to students about what its really like to work in the Pharma industry and discussed the different entry points available to them.
Overall, it was an amazing and positive event, and a privilege to speak to the leaders of tomorrow.
