Purpose: The mini workshop aims to provide practical support and advice for leaders to build confidence in speaking internally, effectively interact and influence others at all levels of an organisation and speaking and advocating externally at meetings and conferences.

Objectives:

  • Create strong awareness and some understanding of practical communication and engagement practices important for those in LGBTQ+ employee network leadership and support positions.

  • Build confidence in speaking with individuals and leaders at any level of an organisation.

  • Build confidence in advocating for others as an internal employee network leader (or aspiring leader) and when invited to participate as a speaker or panellist in external meetings and conferences.

Agenda Outline

  • Intros and open

  • Role of the leader and advocate, bringing in the unique characteristics of someone who is leading and advocating in the LGBTQ+ space

  1. We will touch on the concept of leadership brand and presence – how you show up and are ‘seen’

  2. We will discuss breaking down barriers, both in stereotypes and how organisations see the role of the leader

  3. We will discuss the difference between a leader and a role model

  4. We will touch on how to own your story and use it effectively as part of your how you lead

  • Practical advice and scenarios

  • Open space for questions

  • Close
