Purpose: The purpose of this session is to shine the light on the global picture of LGBTQIA+ human rights and where they are being targeted to build personal understanding and to support a sense of agency to advocate for restoration, maintenance and expansion of these rights.
Summary: Although discrimination and oppression of people who identify as LGBTQIA+ is not new, we are seeing a resurgence of discrimination of sexual and gender minorities in many places around the world. When so much is going on, gaining a broader, well-informed perspective can be difficult. To help, we planned this special event. We are very pleased to welcome Drew Dalton, Founder and Chair of Trustees of ReportOUT, who will present information and data to help those who attend to gain a greater understanding of what is happening, what is being done to resist those who aim to take away rights and what we can do as a community and individuals where we live and work. If like many you are feeling a sense of hopelessness and helplessness, come along to be more informed, connect to feel a sense of community and get ideas to gain a sense of agency about how to respond.
Who should attend: This is an open event to everyone who wants to be better informed about the state of LGBTQIA+ human rights at a time when these rights are being assaulted so we can all better understand how to take action where we live and work.
Expected outcomes:
Attendees will gain a better understanding of what is happening globally to erode LGBTQIA+ human rights.
Attendees will gain insights into what is being done to combat those who aim to take away or erode LGBTQIA+ human rights.
Attendees will gain a sense of agency by understanding what we can do to support efforts to retain and expand LGBTQIA+ human rights in our lives and at work.
